Scandinavian Festival

The annual Scandinavian Festival was on Saturday. The weather was beautiful. They had a real good turnout. Lauren and a friend sang in the children's choir.

Steve and Emmye loved this dish. Some kind of cabbage/meat thing.
The kids bought Finnish chocolate.
This whittler is fantastic. He made free whistles for the kids.

The cast of the Kalevala, a play based upon the Finnish epic poem Kalevala, performed act I at the festival. I had taken Jon to see the play at the Vista theater in Negaunee awhile back. They were superb. Really did an excellent job.

The magic sampo (magic mill) from the Kalevala.

Beach

Second time this year in the water. Finally. Some summers we are at the beach almost every day. The kids are old enough that they can carry their own backpacks and we can ride our bikes there. I can't imagine not living near a fresh water lake. We would have to have a pool.

Mother's Day

I was sorting photos and i realized i didn't post any of Mother's Day. They were really cute. Jon made this elaborate card with a maze, where i had to follow it to see who the best mom in the world was. Quite creative. He was determined to make me an egg for breakfast, so I told him I would like a poached egg. He asked how much vinegar he should use (it makes the eggs stay together). I told him I usually use a few teaspoons. Well, he forgot about the water and poached my egg in vinegar! Yuck!!! We got a good laugh over that one. Lauren made me 3 beautiful cards and gave me .29. She said I could go to the store and buy candy. Obviously she doesn't pay when we go shopping.
