Hardwood Floors
We've just finished redoing all the hardwood floors in the house. Three bedrooms and the living room. I am soooo pleased at how they turned out. Much better than I had expected. I did not want to have to put in carpeting because of the animals and Jon's asthma. Jon has moved bedrooms into Steve's old room and it has carpeting. I'm going to have to do something, maybe a floating wood floor or level loop carpet tiles that can be easily cleaned. Probably wood. I'm very happy with the finish I chose, Varathane Satin. Nice sheen but not gloss. The Varathane sander is a snap to operate. The hardest part is clearing out the rooms and bending over to put on the polyurethane. I tried the applicator but MUCH prefer using a brush.
The worst part of the floor. Water damage from previous owners.
After sanding and hydrogen peroxide. Much better.
The finished floor. I am going to do 1 more coat of poly for good measure.

Marquette County Humane Society
Beach
We were at the beach the other day and the kids found this interesting thing. It was about 3 inches long and looked like some kind of crab. Maybe some kind of beetle. I've never seen anything like it in the lake.
We rode our bikes down to McCarty's Cove last Friday night for an end of the day dip. The sky was beautiful.

Lauren's Birthday
Lauren had her 9th birthday party on Sunday the 5th of July. We had to wait for the weather to be nice because she insisted that we have a pool party on the deck. It turned out really nice. Probably the best party we've had. Lots of kids, lots of fun. They swam, did fireworks, bubbles, ate, an all round good time. Cousins were here from Wisconsin. That made it extra special. Since she had a "kitty" themed party, Lauren asked everyone to bring a can of kitty food that she will deliver to the Humane Society. I made her a "kitty-litter" birthday desert. You put it in a NEW kitty litter box and scoop it with a kitty scooper. Tootsie rolls are melted to look like kitty poop. The kids all thought it was gross but loved it! A good day.

Peach Cobbler
This was pretty good, not fantastic. I've never made cobbler so I don't have anything to compare it to. I think it will be better with berries from the yard.
